The self catering cottage is situated in the Southern Cape, 35 km off the N2 national freeway (on a good tar road) just before Heidelberg. The cottage is about 1 km from the main swimming beach and within walking distance of the river and jetty, popular for fishing and swimming.

Self catering Accommodation

4 rooms - 10 people

The front of the house has glass sliding doors opening on a timber deck with outdoor furniture, a Weber braai/barbecue and magnificent views over the river and the sea. An enclosed recreation room has a built-in braai and opens onto a second wind sheltered timber deck.

There is a large open plan lounge / dining room and kitchen. The dining area sports a yellow-wood dining table with 8 chairs. DSTV is available (bring own card) as well as a radio and DVD machine.

The kitchen has a counter top separating the lounge area, with bar stools up against the counter. It is fully equipped with a fridge/freezer plus a separate freezer, 4 plate stove with oven and extractor, microwave, washing machine, toaster, kettle, crockery, cutlery and all usual kitchen utensils.

There are 4 bedrooms (with 2 double beds, 4 single beds, one sleeper couch), 3 bathrooms (one en-suite with shower, one with shower and one full bathroom with bath and shower). All linen is supplied with the exception of beach towels.

Parking is off-street in front of the house.

Attractions & Activities

The following attractions can be found close to this establishment

  • Scenic walk ways along the dunes above the river and around the village.
  • Witsand is reckoned as one of the largest Whale Nurseries in the world and during the season up to 60 whales can clearly be seen splashing in Sebastian Bay.
  • The Breede River is the largest tidal river in RSA with the sea currents reaching approximately 30 km upstream to the well-known Malgas Pontoon river crossing.
  • Rent a boat for fishing - cob is a favourite.
  • Fishing on the Breede River is extremely popular. A slipway is right at hand for launching boats, etc. A bush pub 15 km upstream is a popular outing.
  • In Witsand there are two well-stocked grocery shops as well as liquor store.
  • The Breede River Lodge has an excellent restaurant as well as good pub lunches.
